Batik is a wax-resist dyeing technique practised across the globe.In India, it is done in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. For traditional motifs or religious iconography using a handmade stencil certain areas are blocked with wax or sometimes splashed randomly for abstract form. This laborious process includes 3 basic steps – waxing, dyeing and scraping.
