Ajrakh

Ajrakh

Ajrakh is an age-old hand block printing technique famous for its traditional motifs in the iconic indigo (hence deriving its name from Azrak, the Arabic for blue). It is a shared cultural heritage owing to its presence in Kutch, Gujarat and Sindh, Pakistan. It involves a complex multi-staged ‘resist printing’ process using natural dyes and water is vital for giving the fabric its characteristic richness.
