The Saree

A harmonious blend of subtle elegance and geometric precision, this authentic handwoven Dhonekhali saree beautifully reflects Bengal's enduring appreciation for structured design. Handwoven by skilled artisans in the historic Dhonekhali weaving clusters of West Bengal, the saree features a soft light grey body that serves as a serene canvas for rhythmic horizontal bands in shades of deep blue, mustard yellow and black. Interspersed within these alternating stripes are finely woven pentagon motifs that lend the fabric a contemporary geometric character while remaining deeply rooted in traditional handloom aesthetics. The thoughtful repetition of colours and forms creates a composition that is visually dynamic yet remarkably balanced.

Framing this refined canvas are beautifully detailed borders composed of alternating blue, yellow and black stripes, gracefully followed by a row of intricately woven pentagon motifs. The layered border design introduces depth and movement without overwhelming the understated beauty of the saree. The muted grey body paired with bold accents creates a versatile palette that effortlessly transitions from workwear and cultural gatherings to relaxed festive occasions.

The Pallu

The pallu carries forward the saree's geometric rhythm with effortless continuity. The familiar striped and pentagon-patterned composition gently transitions into vertical stripes in vibrant shades of red and yellow, creating a striking contrast in both direction and colour. Running gracefully through this woven arrangement is Bengal's iconic Dhaaner Sheesh (sheaf of paddy) motif—an enduring symbol of abundance, prosperity and the deep bond between the artisan and the fertile landscape of Bengal. The interplay of geometric motifs, contrasting stripes and heritage symbolism lends the pallu an elegant sense of movement and timeless appeal.

The Blouse

This saree is a standalone heritage piece and does not come with a blouse piece. Pair it with a solid deep blue cotton blouse for a sophisticated look, a mustard yellow handwoven blouse to highlight the woven accents, or a charcoal black linen blouse for a contemporary interpretation of this timeless weave.

  • Texture: Exceptionally soft, lightweight and highly breathable, this saree has been woven without starch, allowing it to drape with remarkable fluidity and comfort from the very first wear. Perfectly suited to the Indian climate, it offers effortless elegance through long hours of wear. Those who prefer the crisp, structured character traditionally associated with Dhonekhali handlooms may choose to lightly starch the saree before use. Over time, the cotton develops an even softer hand while retaining its strength, breathability and durability.
  • Care Instructions: Gentle hand wash separately in cold water using a mild liquid detergent. Avoid wringing or twisting the fabric. Dry in shade to preserve the subtle elegance of the grey base and the vibrancy of the handwoven coloured yarns.

Note from the Loom: The Dhonekhali weave is celebrated for its lightweight feel and culturally rich motifs. Because this is an authentic hand-loomed product from Hooghly, West Bengal, minor variations in stripe intervals, subtle thread slubs, or gentle colour textures are celebrated characteristics of its fine manual craftsmanship.

Product Note: Being a handwoven product, slight variations in colour, weave, or design are natural and reflect the authentic beauty of handcrafted textiles. The blouses featured in the photoshoots are for representation purposes only and are sold separately.
