Begumpuri is a handwoven, vibrant coloured cotton weave with extra-weft woven patterns from Begumpur, a small village in the Hooghly district of West Bengal. The traditional mathapar (broad bordered sarees without any motif) and nakshapar (simple-patterned) Begumpuri sarees are today also influenced by north-eastern motifs to make this indigenous weave more contemporary.
