The Inspiration

January 2025 marks seven years of our Founder's journey to Ajrakhpur, Gujarat, an experience so powerful that is inspired her to start Bunavat. So, this collection is basically a tribute to Ajrakhpur and our artisans there.

We wanted to experiment with patterns, placements and blocks with a touch of Bunavat's aesthetics to represent what Ajrakh means for us. The inspiration was to establish harmony between Bunavat's favorite simple geometrical shapes and traditional Ajrakh motifs.

The Collection

'Rang-e-Maazi' is a celebration of the hues of the past bringing together a favorite craft and a favorite weave of Bunavat.

Ajrakh hand block printing is known for its intricate, distinct motifs and the laborious printing technique using natural dyes. We used our favorite blocks to create designs that we love.

For the base fabric, we reached out to our cluster in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh. We have used handwoven silk cotton fabric with traditional Maheshwari motifs in the zari borders and zari stripes on the pallu.

Ajrakh embodies the harmony of heritage and sustainability, while Maheshwari celebrates India’s rich textile weaving tradition. We urge you to explore these two textile traditions through our lens - ‘Rang-e-Maazi’.

Artisan

This saree has been hand block printed in natural dyes using the ancient craft form - Ajrakh by Sohel bhai and his team in Ajrakhpur, Gujarat. Sohel bhai's passion for experimenting and zeal for perfection is infectious and makes a great match for Bunavat.

Weaver

This saree has been woven by Nitin and his skilled team in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh. Nitin is an alum of The Handloom School, was part of our digital skilling program and one of the most entrepreneurial young weavers we have worked with.
