Introducing our elegant silk cotton saree, a tribute to the rich weaving heritage of Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh. Known for its lightweight drapes and refined motifs, Maheshwari weaving has been celebrated for centuries.

This saree is beautifully divided into two sections. The body features a sophisticated interplay of lilac and Persian red stripes in varying widths, repeated in harmonious sets throughout, creating a striking visual rhythm. A slim golden zari stripe subtly marks the beginning of the pallu, adding a delicate accent to the otherwise uniform look. The pallu continues the lilac and Persian red stripe pattern, finishing with an elegant wide golden zari panel, lending a touch of grandeur to the overall design. The saree has a persian red border with a thin gold zari and a slightly wider ivory zari with a gap in between.

Part of our Saubhagya collection, this versatile piece can be styled for festive occasions or dressed down for a casual day out, embodying our 'Functional Festive' philosophy to reduce the cost per wear of our festive clothing and thoughtfully design our new elegant, versatile and practical collection.

The Inspiration

When we think of Indian festivals, dressing up in traditional attire is surely one of the first things that come to mind. For a woman, bangles, preferably glass
bangles, often becomes an integral part for completing her traditional look.

For our festive collection of 2024, we drew inspiration from ‘glass bangles’. We looked at the various photos of stacked glass bangles in vibrant colors and intricate detailing of motifs on them. This helped us narrow down the color palette and the motifs.

In 2020, when we had visited the beautiful temple town of Maheshwar on the banks of river Narmada in Madhya Pradesh, for our first cluster developmental
initiative, we were very moved by the numerous small glass bangle shops in the by-lanes of the town. Those imageries were a part of our inspiration, as we pulled out those old photos, we decided to weave our sarees in Maheshwar, known
for its rich weaving heritage of silk cotton sarees.

The Collection

Our festive collection uses a beautiful play of stripes, representative of the stacking arrangements of bangles and colors that are vibrant yet comforting to the eyes. We decided on using minimal zari, just the right amount needed to give the sarees the festive touch yet make them versatile and extremely functional. We often don’t end up wearing our festive wears round the year and they stay locked in our cupboards for months at large. We wanted this festive collection to be more versatile, ones that could be used round the year (in terms of fabric and design) and therefore reduce the cost per wear, which is an important component of sustainable fashion.

Made in silk by cotton with minimal silver and gold zari, using azo-free dyes, these sarees form statement pieces that are comfortable, stylish, and timeless.

In our Indian culture, bangles are believed to bring good luck and protect against negative energies. So, we decided to name this collection ‘सौभाग्य | SAUBHAGYA’, indicative of the good luck and fortune we wish this festive season bestows upon us.

The Maker

This saree has been woven by Nitin and his skilled team in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh. Nitin is an alum of The Handloom School, was part of our digital skilling program and one of the most entrepreneurial young weavers we have worked with.
